Summary of June 13th Panel Discussion

The calibration panel met on Wednesday.  The panel consisted of four members:

·        Dave Change of Dytran Instruments

·        Dilip Shah of E = mc3 Solutions

·        Philip Smith of A2LA

·        Tom Powis of Broadview Instrumentation

The panel members were two metrology lab certification assessors, one calibration lab, and one vendor who is in the process of becoming A2LA certified.  The panel was given questions to answer in a timely fashion.  Here is a list of some of the questions that were of the panel:

What is calibration?

What is A2LA?

What is ISO 17025?

Why is calibration important?

How often should equipment be calibrated?

What standards should I calibrate too?

What is traceability in measurement?

Why is it important to know your uncertainty of your measurements?

The meeting was attended by approximately 30 people.  Attendees had a question and answer period at the end of the panel discussion and we realized that we needed to extend the time of the meeting.

Definitions were distributed for calibration buzz words.  A CD was also distributed with helpful information regarding calibration.

If you were unable to make this meeting, we hope to have a future calibration meeting on a more interactive basis.
